We know it wasn't about who won or lost, but the coming together of all theatre lovers. On that note we would like to congratulate Black Hand's Stephanie Demas for bringing home the gold and coming away from the awards with $500 for Best Original Script for Blow This Popsicle Stand. The award was presented January 30th by Caitlin Murphy, the 2004 recipient. Taken by surprise, Demas thanked as many as she could but she forgot two very important people, Mr. and Mrs. Demas. (Thanks, Mom & Dad!) For photos of the evening, check out http://blackhandtheatre.com/awards/brickenden-2005/. Now on to the Fringe! How could we let the best original script of the year sit unperformed? Good News! If you missed it the first time around, you can catch Blow This Popsicle Stand this summer at the London Fringe! Two weeks ago, we held auditions at the prestigious Tarragon Theatre in Toronto. We saw some awesome talent and met some very friendly characters. Now, a Strugglin' Times Exclusive: the 2006 cast of Blow This Popsicle Stand. Joemosomo is back! That's right, Daniel Sadavoy, winner of the impresario last year at the London Fringe is back with a whole new bag of tricks. Daniel received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph in English and Theatre Studies. He has been seen performing around Guelph in productions such as Serenade and The Lesson. His most recent performance was with George Luscombe Theatre in Lana Turner Has Collapsed. Now to introduce Mr. Ira Pettle! New to the Fringe, but hardly a novice to the stage, Ira studied at Toronto's own triple threat conservatory of performance, the Randolph Academy. If you are a pageant goer, watcher, or participant you may recall Pettle as vibrantly hosting the Miss Canada and Miss Teen Canada International competitions on Rogers Cable. He has also starred as Seymour in Fallen Rock Production's rendition of Little Shop of Horrors, as well as being a part of the cast in PWA Foundation's production of West Side Story. Not only did their talent blow us away, but they are the nicest guys ever. We are so excited to be bringing them to London this summer, and we hope you are too!
